Traveling Central America Part 1 – Guatemala & Honduras

Antigua, Guatemala was our first stop after flying into Guatemala City. We arrived the day before our tour started so we didn’t get in too late on the starting day. Our first night in the town we heard ‘gunshots’ which I thought was really, really sketchy and fireworks all through the night. o.O At 5 am we awoke to a parade going down the street right in front of our hotel. Later that day after exploring the town I realized what I had heard were not gun shots but they were fireworks! There was a big celebration going on in the town for Saint San Francisco, they marched around all day carrying a huge statue of San Francisco. We did a city tour and passed the parade many times, we finally ended at the Church of San Francisco. :)

The next day we left Guatemala and embarked on our first travel day with the final destination for the day being Copan, Honduras. We arrived in Copan later in the day so we didn’t have the option to do many activities that night but we arranged a tour of the Mayan Ruin site of Copan for the next day. I was SO excited to finally see Copan! <3

The next day we left Copan and headed to Roatan, Honduras. I didn’t take a lot of photos in Roatan because most of the photogenic things we in the water, like the barrier reef! But, I do have a video to share! :)

We were in Roatan for almost two full days before we flew to Tegucigalpa, Honduras and drove the rest of the way to Leon, Nicaragua.

I’ll be posting Part 2, the other half of our trip tomorrow … Nicaragua & Costa Rica. Stay tuned! :)

I’ve always dreamed of traveling the world. I’ve had kids and the trappings of daily life that’s made it kind of hard to do. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to start doing something along the travel lines. Thanks for the phone app info – Hope I’ll be needing those soon!

So cool that you’re traveling so much! I lived in Honduras for a year after finishing high school! Such a beautiful country! I’m trying to visit every year since! Did you enjoy Roatan?

      Hey Julie! :)

Honduras is such a beautiful place and has so much to offer! I highly recommend the Mayan Ruin site of Copan if you have not been there. :)

As for Roatan, it is such a relaxing beautiful place. I loved my stay there. A few friends and I ended up finding a beautiful snorkeling spot on the West End that was accessible from the beach. There were beautifully colored corals and fish. The bonus was that we also got to see a few rays and turtles at that spot! The only cost was the few minute boat ride to that specific beach. I recommend visiting Roatan if you are into relaxation and water sports. I heard from a few friends that were there diving that there are tons of beautiful lion fish to see a bit deeper in the water. :)
