Maya Civilizations | Central America

This month I am starting up a topic featuring many different Maya civilizations throughout Central America. Ever since I visited my first Maya city I have been hooked. I am on a quest to see them all and learn their history.

Mayan Ruins of Central America

Jaguar Temple, Tikal

While walking about the ruin sites I can’t help but wonder … How did these people survive? What happened to them in the end? My biggest unanswered question is how did they build these immense structures without the tools that we have now a days?

Follow me as I walk you through some of these ancient civilizations in Central America explaining the stories of the past, they truly are fascinating!

Did you know? The words Maya & Mayan represent different meanings. The word Mayan is used when referencing the language or languages of the Maya. Maya is used when referring to the people, places and culture.

Here’s a few sites I have featured Chichen Itza & Uxmal.

I really like this idea of exploring the Maya civilizations – we visited Caracol in Belize a few years ago and I was so impressed with the site. I couldn’t help but wonder about the civilization.

Thank you Calli! :) I am fascinated by the Maya and their history. I have yet to visit Caracol in Belize, I had very little time in the country which is disappointing. The thing I found intriguing about every Maya ruin site is their past is generally always different at each site. :)

I loved this beautiful posts of yours about the Maya world. I had to chance to visit several Maya sites in Guatemala, Mexico and Belize as a tour guide. It was a very impressive civilization.
